all of the tracks were created using a limited amount instruments, with a deliberate crossover of old synthesizers like a farsa organ or sequential circuits s pro-one and 90s technology like the roland jd-800. it is curious that lawrence says all his synths are half-broken, since the sounds he extracts from them are absolutely healing.

&#8232,ricochet is an unashamed terrace bomb which has been tried and tested by the boys all winter. nothing complicated here, just big beats and tension-filled break that satisfies the dance-floor with the introduction of a familiar sounding old school hip-hop style lead. dubby chords then switch the track up for a few bars before going back to business. the flip opens with transcend, an understated acid track perfect to keep things lively mid- set. the lead weaves it’s way through the track whilst playing with a barely audible vocal and plenty of groovy percussion.

“muen” is based on the concepts of “muen”, “kugai” and “raku” all referring to tactical “freedoms” or “liberties” within the structures of medieval japan. a reflection on concepts that have been lost since the seventeenth century, according to historian yoshihiko amino. while “muen” echoes of the seminal early 90s merzbow, playing on the relationship between metal noise and instrumental oscillations, it differs in interaction between the two. where the pure noise used to dominate, the instrumentation has taken over, making the whole soundscape oscillate and vibrate. each side is one long piece unfolding, an ocean of tones and frequencies, a catharsis of sound, dynamics and power. “muen” is a vitally sonic experience from a true master and innovator of electronic music for followers both new and old. “muen” is limited to 375 copies

bonnie prince billy aka will oldham veröffentlicht mit “best troubador” eine hommage an einen seiner ewigen helden, country- und folk-ikone merle haggard. das werk von haggard begleitet bonnie prince billy nun schon seit mindestens 25 jahren. so coverte er nicht nur bei seinem ersten öffentlichen auftritt einen haggard-song. auch in den folgenden jahre seiner karriere bezog sich oldham immer wieder auf das werk und wirken haggards. das vorhaben, das nun im mai erscheinende album aufzunehmen, begleitete oldham schon eine ganze weile. das ziel war es, an der uralten tradition teilzuhaben, folk-songs an die nächste generation weiterzutragen. fast legte oldham das projekt auf eis, als er im april 2016 vom tod merle haggards erfuhr. statt in einem studio in nashville aufzunehmen, zogen sich oldham und seine mitmusiker zugunsten einer familiären aufnahme-atmosphäre in ein heimstudio zurück. so wurde dem andenken haggards werk durch besondere wärme und intimität würdevoller tribut gezollt.
die songs auf “best troubador” stammen aus allen schaffensphasen haggards. angefangen bei seinem 1967er album “i am a lonesome fugitive” bis hin zu seinem 47. album von 2011, “working in tennessee”, ist es allerdings kein simples best-of geworden, stattdessen kuratierte oldham die songauswahl entlang seiner persönlichen favoriten aus merles katalog.

after previously exhibiting his remixing dexterity on two other occasions, myles sergé returns to „made of concrete“ to showcase his production chops in a four track ep revealing three originals and one rework. firmly rooted in his hometown of grand rapids, a city along the legendary detroit-chicago axis, sergé stays true to the musical hallmarks that made history in the scene, sketching up a contemporary soundscape with haunting old school influences. the ep unfolds as a real treasure trove, with each track digging deeper into the realms of dubbed out electronica, while masterfully blurring the lines between house and techno.

various is a good word to describe this escales vol.2 from croisière musique crew, the second various e.p. from the label, which seems so diverse that it almost could seem inconsistent to someone not familiar with the label. at the same time this e.p. summarizes perfectly a collection of different styles and aspects of croisière musique, from some heavy dancefloor-friendly house and techno to more abstract acid grooves, going through breaky minimalism. a1 – the e.p. starts with battle of wits from sebastian eduardo which is a direct uncompromising floor-oriented piece of house, setting a filtered atmosphere, bouncy bassline and a filtered synth which reminds us of a dubby atmosphere. a thick and compact atmospheric part progressively takes on the middle of the track and suddenly fades to let the main dancing pattern return. a2 – lowlifequalitys is a spatious acid piece which contains elements that are close to the aesthetic of video games. all synths coming together give a sense of confusion yet ordered by the repetitiveness of the loop. the sensation of something nerd and muddle rise from this experience, a expression of weirdness by the member of les points.b1 – programming behavior sets a step back in the ep, evolving around an hypnothic vocal piece which is extracted from an old interview of george clinton, heavily chopped and processed. on top of the simple breaky drum pattern which recenters the experience, gets added an arpeggio and a modular synth sounding sequence which progressively dramatizes the track. rx delivers here a mysterious piece of minimalism, bitter yet swingy. b2 – the e.p. ends with catan, the first appearance from françois, who co-founded croisière musique with rx. starting with an ambiant and breaky atmosphere, catan quickly evolves to a drivy four step techno piece. on top of the leading synth comes different glitchy elements, aerial pads and a disturbing shamanistic glitch in the middle of the track that announces a break which confuses the listener. the track follows-up on this contradiction between the hypnotic grooves and the solid drivy techno.

“hear comes” takes over where “settle down” left off. the song begins with big amen drums, backed with a reggae style skanking guitar chop. during the breakdown, a thoughtful roots reggae vocal sample is introduced that helps lift the track into a true dubwise gem. when the drop hits, the baseline kicks in and begins to wobble and throb behind all the deep atmospherics. the track has a beautiful breakdown, which takes the listener to a more melodic place. after a moment of serenity, the song breaks back into the chaotic old school flavor, which madcap does so well. this one’s a beauty!!

first opus of a two acts project dedicated to my daughters, the ep opens with romane a very personal track which samples were taken from important moments of my life. the ep continues with my old mind and its jazzy touch, tinged with nostalgia of a not too far rave past…like an echo comes stocker an introspective track with breakbeat rhythms.the ep closes the curtain on this intimate fresco with poetry of oblivion, a tribute to electronica.

for its eight instalment, and its first various artist, finest hour brings together old and new friends. tolga fidan and voigtmann were in the plans since the label was created in late 2013, and it’s with great joy that we finally welcome their contribution to our series. a versatile ep that ranges from timeless house inspired by the deepness of the 90s to futuristic minimal cuts with a modular touch and a broken beat edge. the va is completed with two individual contributions by label bosses onirik and pablo tarno, fitting with the musical aesthetics that finest hour is known for.

history freely dilates and collapses on valgeir sigurðsson’s dissonance, his first solo release since 2012. its three large-scale works are haunted by the old western tradition, infused with the ethereal workings of electronics and sound manipulation.
dissonance treads elegantly along a fine line between traditional symphonic organicism and the fissures of the faltering structures of reality. it takes forward sigurðsson’s typically expansive, panoramic writing, and elevates it to a perpetual construction and deconstruction of time and space.
these are hardly his first experiments with the archaic technology of classical instruments, but here the distance between past and present is precisely what the music itself is designed to explore, and to distort.

adrian forciniti aka south side underground, who has been producing since the late 90 s, offers a fine homage to the old school way of entertainig his audience with varying uses of his 909 and other analogue favourites.

elegant, melancholic, sometimes menacing, with smoldering piano melodies, desolately whistling organs, and a jaunty jaw s harp loop, kissed by the golden californian sun, or shrouded in gloomy, dreary fog: sophia kennedy is currently the most versatile composer in german pop music – not to mention the greatest singer. her debut album -sophia kennedy- reveals her as a dramatic romanti-cist and distanced diseuse, as a deft lyricist and master of melody. in her eleven songs, she travels from doo-wop to dubstep, from classic crooning to breathless r n b, from frank sinatra to beyoncé. her talent for songwriting is deeply rooted in history, yet it seeks nothing but the present: both historically versed and timelessly beautiful at the same time. all tracks have been produced by sophia kennedy and mense reents (who is known as being a member of die vögel, egoexpress, die goldenen zitronen).

jean-louis huhta and joachim nordwall are high boys. together they share a deep interest in old school techno acid, aswell as electronic experimentalism and insane electro-acoustics. they want to make music that will mess with your mind, and make you move while your skull is melting. together they have served in the ritual rock group the skull defekts for over a decade but this is their first own project together. huhta also does is killer project dungeon acid amongst other important things, and nordwall runs his ideal label since 98 and makes electronic music alone and with other heads. high boys will not change the musical or political climate but they will make you feel... different.

cuthead have, over the last few years released all kinds of gritty house and hip hop beats but normally through his friends over at uncanny valley. we re now overjoyed to offer you his first ep on local talk and honestly, it s everything we could ve hoped for. spread out over four tracks you get a real dirty basement jam (fuck that shit), a sample friendly house nugget (get down) and a melodic 4/4 tune that sounds like if cuthead and our old friend hnny hooked up in the studio together it got that lil sweet twist we all love! to round off the ep we also included something extra special for the beat heads, a jazzy instrumental hip hop number (what can i say). a pretty good debut on local talk if you ask us

the late 1960s / early 70s brought about a change in sound for many gospel groups. producers and label heads at abc peacock recognized that the traditional sound of gospel needed to be updated to appeal to the younger market. the groups started to incorporate elements of soul and funk with arrangements influenced by the r&b records of the time. this compilation presents 13 striking examples of this seismic shift in black music by some of the greatest groups in gospel music’s rich heritage.

after releasing a string of quality eps for the likes of charlois, doppellschall and permanent vacation, amsterdam based artist dollkraut (pascal pinkert) confirmed in 2014 with his debut album schimanskis black lullabies on brandt brauer fricks imprint the gym. the dutch producers back with his sophomore lp due february 24th 2017 on dischi autunno new label founded by jennifer cardini and noura labbani. holy ghost people sees dollkraut delve deeper into his recognizable lo-fi and organic sound, inspired by old movie soundtracks, creating gritty atmospheres mixed with the purest of melodies. album opens with instant hit bonnie said, where pascals vocals magically merge with the darkest of bass lines. valium continues the journey, increasing the tempo but confirming the feeling of being in a lost sci-fi movie soundtrack. on oblivian, the rhythm slows down again, allowing us to dive even more in this twisted yet candid universe.

this white label 12” is limited to 300 copies and won’t be repressed or available digitally. bratten found the two tracks on an old computer when he was looking for some stems. he played us the tracks and we totally loved them! as he didn’t find the completed tracks, they are refurbished from old stock tracker preset.

we were very happy to be asked by connaisseur recordings if they could put out another album with our music! now it s all come together and they ve asked us to do our own press release for it and quite like the album, we want to do it in our own way, personal and from the heart. it s been a few years since our last connaisseur album, and a lot has happened since. we ve built a new studio, matured musically, acquired new gear, sold old gear, done a lot of gigs, lost faith in music and regained it again. the process of making the loneliest man in space (this album) was a genuinely pleasant experience, as we never really set out to make an album at all. we didn t conceptualize or have any grandiose plans, we simply enjoyed ourselves in the studio. inspiration was running high, so we focused on making a lot of music uninterrupted, rather than signing tracks, which left us with quite a bulk of unsigned material. the idea to release these tracks as an album came from our friend alex, at connaisseur. we instantly jumped on the idea, listened through the material, taking some tracks out and composing a few new ones, to make it sit more together as a whole. we tried to come up with a title that would ft the feeling of the sum of tracks and settled on the loneliest man in space. as the album, to our ears, sounds a little melancholic and a little spacey. we sincerely hope that you enjoy the album either as a listening experience, a dance experience or something in between!

after reviving his 16-bit soul with rampantly joyful and excessively hedonistic escapades in new york, the now newly-named sonikku (casting off the dj moniker of old and focussing purely on his namesake) takes refuge in the legendary high altitude temple, rising from the forest through the clouds and to a monumental blue-hued floating structure. sky sanctuary.
sonikku’s warm, lilted audio recordings from time spent there tell a story of two sonikku’s. one, a young producer, all scorched drum carnage with fruit basket plugins that betray a balearic leaning that defied their age (the b-side). then the second sonikku. pure vibes, positive waves and solid life lessons gleaned all the way from the sky sanctuary (a-side).
